Challenge
BP undertook a major programme to replace its existing third-party payment platform with a new, in-house global payments solution. The platform acts as the central transaction-routing layer for BPme and forecourt payment systems worldwide, processing tens of thousands of transactions per day across thousands of locations. The solution had to meet strict performance, reliability, and security requirements while supporting multiple payment providers, regions, and regulatory environments.
I joined the programme mid-delivery as part of the team responsible for Core Payments, the Mastercard adapter, 3-D Secure flows, and business reporting. My role was to help deliver new features and enhancements across these domains while maintaining stability in a mission-critical, high-availability payments environment.
Results
The new global payments platform successfully replaced the previous third-party solution and now underpins BPme transactions across thousands of forecourts worldwide. The platform processes tens of thousands of transactions daily and has become the core routing layer for payment traffic across multiple markets.
As part of the delivery programme, I implemented a dedicated reporting microservice designed to run independently of the core transaction path. This ensured that business-critical reporting could be delivered without impacting production API latency or availability. I also introduced improvements to the Azure DevOps build and deployment pipelines, helping the team streamline routine activities and reduce manual effort.
During the programme I was consistently among the highest-throughput developers across the delivery teams, contributing features and enhancements across the payments flow, Mastercard integration, 3DS, and reporting services. The project was successfully delivered into production and transitioned to a dedicated maintenance and operations team.
