BP is a leading global energy company. BPme is an app that enables users to pay for fuel directly at the pump.
Team
The BPme Replatforming project involved multiple Agile teams across several countries, with over 100 team members. My team consisted of approximately 15 members and was responsible for Core Payments, the Mastercard Adapter, 3DS, and business reporting.

Challenge
The overall project aimed to replace BP’s existing payment integration with an in-house solution. This solution served as a comprehensive global payment system, designed to route transactions to the appropriate payment gateways worldwide. It supported over 10,000 pay-at-the-pump kiosks and the BPme app, collectively processing 32,000 transactions per day.
I was brought on halfway through the project to assist the team in adding features from its backlog.
Results
Overall, the project was deemed a success. BPme is now fully utilizing the new payments platform. The project was handed over to a maintenance team, and most of the original teams were disbanded.
Beyond contributing to general features and enhancements, here are some of the key highlights I accomplished during my time:
- Led the implementation of a reporting microservice, designed to ensure zero impact on production API response times.
- Ranked among the top five most productive developers across the project teams in 2022, based on the number of story points closed.
- Improved developer productivity by automating tasks within Azure DevOps (ADO) pipelines.
